I used to work for Sony, in one of their boutique stores as a concierge. I greeted the customers at the door and directed them to either the salesperson I thought could help them the best or to the product they needed. A guy walked in and asked if we had a cord for his laptop. I asked him for the model number of the computer he had so I could look it up in our system to make sure we had it in stock. He told me it was a Toshiba. I replied, "Sir, this is a Sony store. Unfortunately, we only have cords compatible with our laptops..." Before I could look up where he could get a compatible cord, he blew up at me and asked to speak to a manager. When the manager came over, he screamed at her that I had an attitude problem and that he just wanted a "G-d damn cord for my Toshiba!" She blinked and told him that he was in the Sony store and that we only had cords compatible with our laptops, in the exact tone I used. He threatened to call the DM and stormed out of the store.

Customers like him helped solidify my decision to leave customer service.

i worked at a full service gas station for a couple of years, and whenever i had someone get snippy with me for whatever reason, i anticipated hearing them say they were gonna complain, so i could say, "my manager will be in from 7 to 3 tomorrow, you can complain to him." to give you an idea of how well i was respected there and by the company overall, the letter of recommendation by my manager labeled me as one of his top five employees ever, and two months after i resigned, i was asked by my former supervisor if i could fill in at another station for a few weeks.

but that incident of yours amused me. "hi, i own a product by your biggest competitor and i need something that'll work with it." what?

Tell me about it. I also had a lot of people come in asking for Ipods then becoming irate when I told them that we had MP3 players. They ARE NOT the same thing.

Yeah..Petco was hell. I hated it because these people were buying pets for kids that they could probably easily kill and most of the parents didn't care and it just felt wrong to me. Ugh. If you're going to get an animal for a kid, first of all, having some f-ing compassion for the animal or you're buying the wrong thing. You could just as easily buy a stuffed toy.
